Hi,
This is my first blog effort. I know so many of you are really blog savvy, so you might wonder where the photos, songs and movie clips are. Sorry, you’re going to have to be patient and wait for the sexy stuff, that I promise will come later. I have lots of ambitious plans to recommend fabulously inspirational movies, song lyrics and great photography, amongst other things.
The main theme of this site is careers, future, life-planning and generally motivational talk that will, I hope, get you moving, loving your lives and not wasting a minute. We all have pyjama days; I’m a master at those. But we need to remind ourselves that the responsibility lies within ourselves to make absolutely the best of our talents and opportunities.
I’m passionate about this, and I’ll give you an example of why it means so much to me. On Friday I attended the funeral of an 18 year old young man. He died last week after a 15 month battle with a really nasty type of brain tumour. He was hit by this misfortune totally indiscriminately-there’s no genetic cause, no environmental explanation. He was always the most laid back young man, plus he was kind, intelligent, compassionate. He turned vegetarian after viewing aerial photos of primitive abbatoir. Since the diagnosis in December 2011 he was inspirational in his calm and uncomplaining submission to some very invasive surgery, treatments and distressing side effects. I swear on whatever book you wish me to swear upon that he never complained and never once asked, “Why me?”
I don’t tell you this story to distress you, rather to ask you to consider if you think you’re lucky. If you didn’t 5 minutes ago, I hope that has changed. I hope that you realise that if you thought you were having a bad day, it could actually be worse; that if you felt you had no opportunities in life then you probably in fact do have some choices, if only you could begin a simple list, do some Google searches, go talk to a parent or mentor.
If you’re still thinking pessimistic thoughts, go and You Tube, Bob Marley’s song, “Three Little Birds”. It was the 18 year old young man’s favourite song. And tomorrow go and hire the movie, “Silver Linings Playbook“. It will make you laugh if nothing else, but if you take from it that making things happen is all down to strategy, then you’re on the first step to success.
Good luck. Talk soon
