The UMAT test for medical degree applications

Students must sit the UMAT test for medical degree applications and year 11 or year 12 students can register now for this test.

There is strong competition for places in medical degree programs and there are not many courses and places available to students, in Victoria at undergraduate level. This is why preparation is essential for success.

At The VCE and Careers Expo, last weekend, I heard about companies that are charging high prices to prepare students for the UMAT test. Parents must be really careful about committing to these programs. As with anything, you need to check the qualifications of the tutors who claim to be experts in medical degree test preparation.

I provide broad guidance on the steps in the application processes for a wide range of tertiary programs, including that for medical degree applications. I support year 10, year 11 and year 12 students so that they are aware of the:

-benefit of work experience for gaining direct experience in clinical setting and for establishing networks

-ways in which to obtain quality work experience placements, including in the preparation of resumes and cover letters

-courses in medicine and pathway courses available in Victoria, and interstate

-timelines and deadlines for applications

So if your child hopes to study medicine and needs to sit the UMAT for medical degree applications, please contact me at [email protected] for an obligation free conversation.

Happy Weekend and Happy Mother’s Day!
